Happy Halloween

As I got up and around today, I knew I would be missing a day full of little ones dressing up for Halloween and having a classroom party!  It was always so much fun.  So, if you are in a classroom/daycare etc today, take pictures, and have fun!

Here is a recipe for Slimy Oobleck, maybe make some today!

1 Tablespoon Laundry Borax
1 small container Elmer's glue
food coloring
ziploc bags
2 soda bottles

Put borax into one soda bottle. Add one cup water, put on cap, and shake well.
In second bottle combine glue with an equal amout of water, and add food coloring.
In a bowl combine one cup of glue mix and one cup of borax (mix).
Stir with your finger, in 30 seconds it will glob up.

This is so much fun to play with!  :)

If you may be having a party later tonight, here a few cute treats to make!

“After you scoop out and carve your pumpkin, dip it in a large container of
bleach and water (use a 1 tsp:1 gal mix).  The bleach will kill bacteria and
help your pumpkin stay fresh longer.   Once completely dry, (drain upside down),
add 2 tablespoon of vinegar and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to a quart of water.
Brush this solution onto your pumpkin to keep it looking fresh for weeks.”

This works!  Keep in your classroom for weeks without a mess!

Hello Early Childhood Leaders!

I hope everyone had a great Monday!  The weeks seem to be flying by.  I have added so many neat ideas in the pull menu on the home page. If you have any questions about any project do not hesitate to e-mail, call, or leave a comment!  If you would like to be featured in an activity you are doing in class---send it!

Today's activity:
If you see a web outside in the sun, spray it with white paint and take a black piece of construction paper and attach the web to the paper (it should stick).  Then you can take it into class and show and share!

Jolly Jack-o-Lanterns
(sung to the tune of "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider")
The jolly jack-o-lanterns
Have smiles that are so bright.
These jolly jack-o-lanterns
Can light up a dark  night.
They flicer and they shine
As we walk along the street.
Oh, thank you, jack-o-lanterns;
You help

Good Chilly fall day to you all!  What a wonderful and relaxing weekend! You can feel fall in the air!

Today read the Little Old Lady Who Isn't Afraid of Anything with your children.   You can ask your little ones what they are afraid of, and let them know it is ok to be afraid of something!

Make Ghost Shakes:

Make vanilla shakes by mixing on gallon of vanilla ice cream and a gallon of milk in a blender.  Add ice cream as needed to thicken---yum.  This will be a hit with your students!

Have a fun day!

Children's Art Centers

  • Make sure when you are setting up an art center that you are using materials that are nontoxic, and washable!

Remember the Art center should be for children to explore, so plan activities that expose the children to different textures, colors, and ideas.  Let them be creative.

So many times in today’s society, children are given a laptop, I Pad or IPhone to play with. Children need to develop a sense of security within themselves and be creative.

You will want to use all types of material in your art center.

    1. All sizes of crayons, pencils, and markers.

    2. Finger-paint

    3. Ink Pads

    4. Tape (they have really fun tape now!)

    5. Paintbrushes

    6. Construction paper, butcher paper, newspaper

    7. Paint

    8. Stick glue and runny glue

    9. Bingo daubers

    10. Sponges

    11. Craft Sticks

    12. Foil

    13 bubble wrap

    14. Card board (Plain and corrugated)

    15. Gift wrap

    16. Paper bags

    17. Paper towels

    18. Sandpaper

I know you are thinking "wow" that is a lot of stuff.  This list is a list of ideas!  ONLY!  You should NEVER put all of these things in a center at once.  You need to model and introduce students to these different materials.

Fall is in the air!

My favorite time of the year is here!  The weather is beginning to get cool, you can wear jeans, boots, sweaters, scarves, and my favorite COATS!  I own 57 coats!  I know, I know, I love to shop! :)

There are so many neat things you can do in your classroom during the fall season!

1. Make sure your students know that fall can also be called autumn.

2. Make sure your students know the difference between a pumpkin and a jack-o-lantern!

3. Carve a jack-o-lantern.  Let each child have the opportunity to be a part of the carving AND cleaning out the inside! Vote on what kinds of eyes, nose, and mouth your classroom wants your jack to have!  :)

4. Bake the pumpkin seeds.  Set your oven at 350 and bake seeds for about 10 minutes (maybe 15 depending on your oven). Sprinkle the seeds with brown sugar or salt and let students try them!

5. Go on a fall walk!  Give each student a sack and let them pick up anything they find that is "fallish" After returning, let everyone share what they have, and put them in the "Fall Box" in your Science Center!  Students will spend lots of time in the Science Center at this "Box" because THEY participated in the collection of the items.

6. You will have lots of leaves from your fall walk so do leaf rubbings!  Put them in a book.

7.  You will also have rocks, paint the rocks!

8. Read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert!  Then make a leaf man for your classroom!

9. Decorate your classroom with lots of bright colors!  These is such a wonderful time of year, and remember you are in your classroom all day--make it homey!

10. Set centers up with a fall theme; try to incorporate some sort of "FALL" into all of them.

There will be projects posted in the different areas for you reference back to!

Have a Happy Day!
