Letter Activities
Letter Poster! I do one of these for every letter. It has the capital and lowercase, the letter sign picture, and I always add a picture myself. Then the students are asked on Wednesdays to bring an object to hot glue to the paper. If you hot glue they come right off and you can add year after year. You can also make these into books, or if you have wall space use them for your classroom alphabet for your wall :)
Literacy Plate. Name of child in the middle. Make 26 slits. Write letters A-Z. Go on a hunt for anything that starts with the letter and fold the letter back as you find the object, picture etc.
LETTER MAT These mats are from Literacy First, but they are examples of games you can play. The beginning of the year you can have them match the letters with plastic letters. You can start timing them to see how fast they can match, then they can move over to the other mat and fill in the missing letters. Students love this, and it can be used at a center or as they come in the classroom.
Soft Letters. This is a container of soft letters. If you sew you can make them, you can make them out of foam, or construction paper, or buy the set. You can play seek and find, spell, name games, and sort. These are well worth making.
Phonics box, drawers with objects. Label all drawers with letter, and put objects that start with that letter and sound in the drawer.
This is what my alphabet buckets look like for all of the letters.
Cookie sheet letters, magnetic letters, use this as you read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Old Lady! This old lady is made out of a gum container. She can also be a he, it is up to you! Find letters that fit in the mouth, and this can also help with assessment. Can be used for MANY activities.
Lunch Box Letters. This is just a very cheap lunch box I found. You can find all sorts of themes. This one has sorting and letters in it. You can do so many different things in these little lunch boxes. You can also use an Altoids container if you have any.
Letter Theme Containers. Collect little butter dishes, or some sort of dish, label the container and add anything that starts with that letter. You will only have to do this one time. Then year after year, you can just pull the container and you have items to introduce your letter and sound!
Shark Eating Letters. Shark one, is the teacher shark. He is large and made out of foam. Staple the foam shut on three sides, and cut a triangle for his mouth. The second shark is the student shark. He is made out of an envelope. I like to use the ones that close by sticker, as they stay closed better. Cut the triangle for his mouth. This shark can like to eat anything! :) Also on the Math page, but can eat shapes, colors whatever you want him to eat!.
