Baked Cotton Balls!
Materials:
Flour, water, plastic bowls, plastic spoons, food coloring, cotton balls, baking sheet
Add equal parts flour and water as well as a few drops of food color to each bowl. Stir the mixture.
Show students the cotton balls. Ask them what they think would happen if you bake a cotton ball.
Have each student dip a cotton ball into the mixture and place them on a backing sheet. Bake the cotton balls at 300 for 30-45 minutes. Let the balls cool.
Let students explore the cotton balls. They will notice the texture is very hard. have them break open the cotton balls and investigate the soft interior texture. THEN, revisit the predictions from before baking.
Pumpkin Dough
5 12/ Cups Flour
2 Cups salt
8 tsp Cream of tartar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 Cup pumpkin spice
4 cups water
orange food coloring
In a large saucepan cook over low heat until it looks like playdough. Let cool
Squishy Green Goo
Plastic baggies for everyone
5 Tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water
1/2 cut vegetable oil
Several drops of green food coloring
Seal the bag and close with packaging tape
Incredible, Slimy Oobleck:
1 tablespoon Laundry Borax
1 small container Elmers glue
food coloring
2 soda bottles
Put borax into on soda bottle.
Add one cup water, put on cap and shake well
In the other soda bottle, combine glue with an equal amount of water.
Add food coloring.
In a bowl, combine one cup of glue mix and one cup of borax, mix together.
Add a little at a time, and stir with finger.
In 30 seconds it will glob up.
Keep in a ziplock bag.
