Incorporate Cooking Lessons with Children's Lit
I have added some of my favorite books that stress math concepts and learning while you cook with your students! :) Students love cooking, and many may not have home cooked meals or even see someone cook in the kitchen! I made it a point to try to cook at least once a month if not more. Having a specific day such as "Friday Cooking Day" is so much fun.
1. Read the book on Monday
2. Do an art activity on Tuesday
3. Vocabulary from the book on Wednesday
4. Math (if the book has it on Thursday)
5. Writing, Spelling Word wall ect when one of the above does NOT pertain
6. Cook on Fridays
FUN BOOKS to COOK WITH!
Each of these books make students think, engage, stir, add, do simple fractions, measuring, following directions and steps, read numbers and number words etc.
My Favorites:
Green Eggs and Ham (Green Eggs and Ham)
If you Give A Pig A Pancake (Pancakes)
If you Give A Mouse A Cookie (Cookies, no bake are very easy)
Dragons Love Tacos (Tacos---YUM "Taco Tuesday")
If you Give a Moose A Muffin (Muffins and have Muffins with Mom)
Blueberries for Sal (Blue Berry Smoothie in a baggie) Anything in a baggie is awesome!
Pete's a Pizza (Pizza and have a Pizza Party with the families)
The Little Red Hen (Baking Homemade Bread)
The Gingerbread Man (Gingerbread cookies, this is fun to do at Christmas time)
Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs (Meatballs and Spaghetti if you want to get really creative!)
It looks Like Spilt Milk (Milkshakes or just chocolate/white milk)
Stone Soup (Vegetable soup)
The Ice Cream King (Ice Cream in a baggie---yum)
I know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie (Pumpkin Pie in a Baggie)
Making Butter (Butter and put it on a cracker or bread!)
This is a site that has wonderful recipes to use in your classroom! :)
