Listening Center (The listening center allows children the opportunity for independent listening activities.)

Things you may want in your Listening Center:
Blank tapes/cds
Books and tapes (children can also record themselves reading--this helps in many areas, and is enjoyable)
Class-made books and tapes
Song cds
tape recorder
Cd player
Headphones
Plastic bags (organized with books)
Song and poem charts
Chairs, bean bag chairs, claw foot tub, couch, I used a small plastic picnic table and only allowed 2 children at this center.
Organization:
-You will want somewhere to keep your tapes and books (plastic baggies, a large coffee can, tin can, plastic tub)
-If it is in an individual tub, it becomes a portable center and can be taken anywhere there is a plug in.
-Have coding on the tape player.  I did stickers, green means play, red is stop and eject, yellow is rewind.

IDEAS:
Have parents record books on tape for students to listen to.
Record common sounds like a ball bouncing or a dog barking and students can find a picture.
Students can interview one another.
Invite children to listen to classical music.
