In the month of December I enjoyed brining in "old" games for students to play. I would model how to play them, and then have a game center area.  I also had games that they could pull of the shelf and play at their seats or at the carpet area.

​I love to do this, because often times I had students in my classroom that had NEVER played a board game! They loved it, and were so engaged that sometimes throughout the year I would pull them out again.

​Some games that I liked to use:
1. Connect four
2. Operation
​3. Tick tack toe
​4. Candy land
5. Uno
6.Hungry Hippo
7. Don't spill the beans
​8. Monkeys in a can
​9. Twister
​10. Pictionary
11. Sorry
12. Fishing game
13.Old Maid
14. Spoons
15. Jenga (I also had the large set)
16. Memory
​
​There are probably more that I am missing, and there are even other games that I put out all of the time.  Usually those are more curriculum based and could be put together to match common core etc.

​I challenge you to start out with 2 games, and let your students have fun, remember some may never play a board game again!

I hope you each had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)  I had a great time and it was restful and relaxing!

​Now, thinking about what we can do with our children/students at Christmas time is what I am thinking about. I know at many schools you can't do Santa etc, so I liked to do snowmen! 
​Here is a fun activity that turns out great for a snowman. You can even make it into an ornament. It is so enjoyable to see how everyone's turns out so differently!

What are you thankful for this holiday season. I am thankful for so many things in my life. I am thankful for my family, my health, my job, my students and the wonderful life I get to live each day.
​I do feel like every single day is a gift. A couple of years ago I lost my best friend. It was sudden, and scary. When things like that happen it makes you think differently. I tell people now, that complain about wrinkles and getting older, that it is gift to grow old. It is a gift to have those wrinkles---and I truly feel that way.
​I hope that as we start 2018, we are all able to look back on what we have done and be better at whatever it is we are going  to do next.
​I hope that we can value each other more, engage with families and children  in a way that makes them love school and feel valued and comfortable. I hope we hold our families tighter, and that we learn to love one another, and the differences that we each bring to this world! :)

​I love teaching, I am a co-learner with my students. I love being able to share ideas, resources and experiences with them. I love to hear what they are experiencing and how they are making  a difference in the world.

​I hope that everyone has a wonderful and THANKFUL week!  Have fun and enjoy your family and friends!  Do something great for someone else.  Give back!

I  find that children love to be praised, they want to know you see them doing a good job. Lets start today.

Hello wonderful educators and families!
I am so happy you have decided to join me today.
I would like to share some ideas for you to do with your family for the rest of the month.  Some of these I just use at home and many I used in my classroom! :)

1. Take a fall walk, you can actually do this every day for the entire month.  I would do it in the evenings, or you could do a bike activities as a family or a hike!  Something outside.

2. Pick out pumpkins at a pumpkin patch
3. Carve jack-o-lanterns (After you clean them out, bake the seeds)
4. Read fall, Halloween, or season books.  Look through fun magazines that show the different seasons.  Talk about Fall/Autumn.  What is your favorite season?

6. Paint rocks.  After you paint rocks hide them around your neighborhood and or town, and write a message on them.  This is such a fun activity and has become something really big on Facebook.  Check there for pictures from your own community.
 
7. Make popcorn balls (YUMMY).   There are many recipes out there!

8. Jump in a pile of leaves
9. Watch a fun holiday season movie as a family!  FAMILY NIGHT MOVIE
10. Most of all, enjoy time together! Have fun, and try to take the evenings and weekends to do something really fun! :)
