As I look back on this year, I have so many things to be thankful for in my personal and professional life. I have overcome many obstacles, learned many new things, met new friends and people, have been a part of great things in the world of education and my family has been blessed.
As we teach children how to be thankful and what it means to be thankful, we can do this in many ways. I loved have conversations this time of year of what I was thankful for and what they are thankful for. What we are thankful for will be different than what a young child is thankful for, but we are teaching them to be understanding, grateful and know that we are blessed people. I am so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life. Friends that are amazing, a family that is so supportive and fun and a job that I LOVE doing every single day. I never wake up and wish for anything more. This week in your classroom or with your children at home, talk about what being thankful means. I believe this weeks allows us to reflect on the time we have, the things we have accomplished and what the future has in store. You can literally be thankful for ANYTHING! And I am thankful for the smallest to the biggest things in my life! Have a wonderful, thankful and blessed week! Dr. Shipley We must remember that technology is ever evolving. With this said, as educators we must ensure that we are using all technology to help us be better teachers. I believe it is very important to use social media in the classroom to engage families. My new article on social media and engaging families is under Dr. Shipley's Articles.
Any way that we can engage families in what we are doing is crucial. In my article I discuss using Pinterest, Twitter, A Classroom Website and a You Tube Channel. Why not engage families any way we can? When I was teaching I used a different theme each week. I made sure that my themes were interesting and engaging to age of child I was teaching. You must make sure that it activates prior knowledge and is something meaningful that they can add to their background.
Here is the link to my classroom mascot page that also gives letter recipes to use with your students: http://busyclassroom.weebly.com/classroom-mascots.html I have written an article about DAP and how teachers can incorporate it into their classroom practices. As an early childhood educator I always tried to make sure to not ONLY follow the standards I was given, but to ensure that I was using DAP when engaging my students. Developmentally appropriate practices have a place and should be seen in all EC classrooms. Here is my article: http://blog.kaymbu.com/2014/10/07/a-guide-to-developmentally-appropriate-practices/
I would also love to hear what you have to say about DAP etc. Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] |
